Much drama. Cracked swingarm. Options...???
Went by the local H-D shop to get new front brake lines/throttle cables after work today...FORTUNATELY...the parts guy wanted me to verify the length of my current throttle cables before he ordered them. I say fortunately, because (for one, I didn't spend the money) I came home and started pulling the bike apart to get access to the cables and then decided to wipe down some of the chrome. While doing so...I found that I have a crack in my swingarm.
Did I mention I'm annoyed?
Now...a little info. The bike is a 1999 Road King that I put a 2000 (3/4" axle) swingarm on. That allowed me to use the 'old style' 4-piston rear caliper. Both the swingarm and caliper have been powder coated to match my paint. Also, my rear wheel was recently swapped for an H-D solid chrome 'smoothie' (p/n 41262-08) & chrome 'smoothie' BDL pulley. I have a Burley lowering kit too.
Anyway. Now what?
The idea of having it welded crossed my mind, but was quickly dismissed.
Buying a new swingarm from H-D seems insane, as it's like $600.
That leaves me with a few other options:
- Find another 'used' swingarm from a 2000 (or 2001) and just install it using my current parts so I can ride now.
- Wait a few months until my 'bike fund' grows a bit (I won't put any bike stuff on credit), then do it with some style...chrome swingarm from a 2002+ w/a 1" axle & rear H-D Brembo caliper/rotor. A quick visit to eBay found the swingarm & a caliper...which I could grab now...but install would have to wait until I could afford the axle, wheel bearings, spacers, swingarm bushings, etc.
Have I said yet that I'm annoyed?
There are other options out there...including some really cool alternatives to the OEM swingarm bushings...but all of that gets even more costly.
Well...that's it. Thoughts?
If anyone has a 2000/2001 swingarm just sitting around...please let me know. That would make this whole problem WAY easier to solve.

I'd be looking at eBay and craigs list for a new swing arm.
Will this work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-harley-...r#ht_25wt_1128
The other thought I have is how long are you willing to wait. Riding season is here, it would kill me to not have my bike running as soon as I could ride. If nothing on eBay or craigs list, you might look at some of the used parts dealers or bite the bullet and order that new $600 swing arm from HD.
With a scoot that nice, I'd want it on the road. Good luck.
