Set Screw Size for Rider Backrest?
Apart from a 3/16" hex head, what length/width set screw do I need to get?
Thanks!

it is 5/16" NC ( National Coarse, which is 18 threads per inch ( TPI)
you can use any 5/16" NC bolt you want.
it would have a head that takes a 1/2" wrench (wrench heads are 3/16" larger than the bolt shaft, the shaft is the rated "size" of the bolt)
the correct replacement for the stock would a "button head" allen, 5/16" NC, x 1/2" ( button head means the head is domed)
use a little locktite or nail polish to gum up the threads some so that the replacement bolt can't rattle out on you
I have posted before on how to tighten up the 2 pivot bolts when they get loose and floppy on you, you can search for that when it's time

Knowing the FenderGuy from Jersey asks alot of questions, I tried to answer them all!

By the way, just scored my second American Special Telecaster today!
I'm looking at the installation instructions for a Rider Backrest Mounting Hardware Kit. On page 2, under Backrest Pad Adjustment, it reads, "Use 3/16 inch hex wrench to adjust set screw that is accessible through eyelet opening on rear of pad."
Is it 5/16" or 3/16"?
we are sizing the bolt, not the tool to drive the bolt.
the size of an allen head wrench is not always proportional to the bolt size.
The size of a hex head is:
a 5/16 bolt hex head takes a 1/2" wrench.... a 1/4" bolt hex takes a 7/16" wrench...and so on.
the head is 3/16" larger than the bolt.
so a 1/2" hex bolt takes a 11/16" wrench.
...... 8/16" + 3/16" = 11/16
follow?
( and that's how I make my living off guitar players)

- with allen keys the size of the drive tool is not always standardized to the size of the bolt
you need a 5/16" NC x 1/2" bolt, button head allen if you want same as stock.
this bolt may require a 3/16" allen key, or it may be another size.

This why I am a Tele player...
