stupid question but did your air temp gauge work prior to installing this?

do you have +12v power at the orange wire on the back of the gauge? connect test light to known good ground and touch orange wire. should light up
do you have -12v ground at the black wire on the back of the gauge? connect test light to known good +12v source and touch black wire. should light up
you should be able to read resistance with a DMM across the blue wire and black wire. as the motor warms up, the resistance will increase. this tells you the sensor itself is good.

It is a simple plug, no additional ground as you mention. I suspect there is a problem with the Gauge or sender. I'd verify voltage and go from there. I Installed the same gauge as you described and it works fine.

I just installed this same gauge on my 2004 EG with the same results, it doesn't seem to be registering.

Metal_Head 75 - Nothing was posted as to what you found your trouble to be?? Still scratching my head at this point.

Thanks

How long did you run it? My 2012 takes about 10 miles at highway speed to even move off the cold peg. 25+ miles to get up to normal operating temp. (230*-250*).

I rode about 15 miles and it didn't move. When you power up the bike, the needle does lift up off the stop just a bit, but so far nothing other than that. I will ride it longer and see what happens.
Thanks

There is a ground on the gauge. Simply take a spare wire as a test. Strip both ends. Ground 1 end to a known ground, touch the other end to the black ground wire and see if the gauge works. It will not harm anything and will test the theory. In replacing my air gauge, I had to run a separate ground wire. Why I do not know but it fixed the problem.

should just be plug and play.... it gets is ground from the harness... (two wires come from the sender and that plugs into the plug that you pulled out from the Air sensor. From there it should pick up a ground signal but a wire could be loose or a plug not connected right tight..

Get a test light or Voltage meter and troubleshoot the plug making sure you have power and a ground. simple to do and no guesswork needed.
