Default Oil temp gauge install problem

I recently installed the fairing mounted oil temp gauge, and it is not registering at all. The sending unit in properly installed in the pan, and the wiring routed up the left-side downtube into the fairing.

As the installation directions indicate, the harness female end is connected into the air temp gauge male connector, and the 3 prong connector attaches to the back of the gauge. Am I missing something? This seems pretty straight-forward and seems like a simple process. Please advise as to what I didnt do correctly. Thanks in advance

How long have you run the motor after the install? It takes a little while for the gauge to register.

Don't expect it to start registering while idling in the garage, you gotta ride it around for a bit.

I have the Dakota Digital oil temp gauge. Shows a reading soon as the bike kicks over. Shouldn't have to wait.

As others have said, it takes a few miles to start to register, and 15-20 to get completely hot. But 60 miles would be plenty far enough. All you can do is check all your connections. It is a simple system and the fix is probably simple too. If that doesn't work, trouble shoot. If it were me, I'd start at the sender. Pull the wiring off the sender and short the leads with something. Does it move now?

Good luck, post up what you find.

There is a ground at the gauge? I thought it was just one plug to run everything and that uses the existing air temp harness.

There was no ground on the gauge on my 2012. Not sure about your bike. Sig says a 2002. They may be different. Was there a ground on the air temp gauge when you removed it?
