Default Whats the deal with Shinko tires?

Since moving here to Houston I have been going through tires like crazy. These dead straight flat rough concrete roads just eat the center right out of a tire. I am at the point of needing tires again and im not feeling all warm and fuzzy about spending $400 for tires to get me half way through the summer! I saw the Shinko 777 tires at J&P for $113 rear and $87 front. Sounds like the deal. Ive tried Dunlap, Avon, Metzler and Falken with about the same short life on this rough concrete. Has anyone tried these tires?

Never used them myself, but I know they're a joint Korean/Japanese company and the tyres they make conform to the ISO 9001 specification. So they should be OK.

I guess there's only one way to know for sure though...

I had never heard of them and mostly was looking to see if anyone had any bad experiences with them. If no one chimes in that they had a set and they were terrible I may just pop the $200 and give them a try. No since in paying more just to have the Houston roads eat them up!

Oh crap...I meant to say Ill "pull the trigger" on them!!!

Justvread on another thread this morning that somebody uses and loves them. He only gets about 5k miles on the rear so unless you mount and balance yourself it might not be cost effective. Don't know what thread it was tho, sorry.

I have used many a Shinko on my Dynas and Softails. Never had a single issue. They seem to handle just fine but they never last as long as the big names. So yeah, they are cheaper, but you go threw them quicker.

Watch your load ratings. While they have tires of the right size, few are rated for the load.

Run em....you'll be fine. They have a TON of traction (hence the reason why they are so popular with the rocket crowd) and will hold up to the weight requirements just fine. They last just as long as the others too.

Haven't run their HD tires, but just (very) reluctantly put a set on one of the Hondas - they're the only brand left that makes a correctly sized rear. Have to say they're possibly the best handling tires I've tried on that bike in almost 20 years of ownership. Who knew?! No wear data yet.
