Getting a more comfortable bike might make your riding habits change. I've done several 3000+ miles (7-10 day) trips on a sportster, and countless more on larger big twins, so when I moved to a touring bike I figured I'd just have more storage capacity and wind protection, but I found that I was able to ride much longer days with far less fatigue at the end of each day.
A touring bike also made my wife far more comfortable too. She had joined me on a lot more of my trips since getting my current bike.
BTW, my scoot is my primary transportation as well, and even running around doing chores, or heading to and from work is better. Fewer bug splashes on my work cloths...etc.
Wow thanks for the replies. It seems if I took a poll the Ultra would win hands down. How is breaking power compared to per say a Sportster or Dyna? I love ABS on the cage but never considered it on a motorcycle but I do now.
If you can try and ride both a non-Abs and an abs equipped bike, please make up your own mind. Do not listen to others opinions on abs, no ones, not mine either, LOL Only you can decide whether or not the HD abs is for you.
If you are currently riding a Sporty, then I am assuming you prefer the more simplistic looking bike. I would suggest a Street Glide. It is a great ride, easy to through around and has some storage.
Go straight to the top of the food chain and get a Roadglide Ultra. This is coming from a guy who loved his streetglide. If you can't handle the look get a limited with detachable tourpack and a custom seat. Its cheaper to strip one down that add to it. With the streetglide you will probably add taller shocks after a while anyway. You might wait and see what 2015 looks like.
As soon as the bike has white walls and excessive chrome - its a geezer glide. A Road King just means it lacks a trunk, gauges, radio and a fairing. Great items to have for touring.
Road Glide vs. Electra/Ultra - Personal preference, advantages/disadvantages to both. Your choice. I like a closer dash/radio and placing the front wheel easier on my dolly. I don't mind a cross breeze and steering corrections.
Others prefer the open dash, better crosswind stability, and storage.
I'm not buying all the Road King stuff. Yea, there cool, if you want to ride something that looks like Elvis rode. I'm in the Ultra or Road Glide club; more modern look.
