Ok a brother of mine bought a 01 Road King wanted it louder so he bought and installed straight pipe fish tails, then we come to discover a stage 1 AC hiding under the stock cover. Now he has developed popping and backfiring.
I am a Dyna guy and am of the belief that just pipes your ok, just AC your ok. Both changed NOT ok!
He isnt long on funds and it would be a bit before he could afford a tuner or Stock AC to get things ok again.
So that being said if I help him out what cheap tuners or other options do I have here to work with to get him running good?
I haven't been looking in the "parts for sale" section much, but I would think there would be plenty of PC III's and PC V's for sale from the sounds of how many people who have been switching to the PV.
Thanks ultra.
what models of Fuel Pack Power Commander am I looking for?
I ride a 12 Dyna and have a pretty good understanding of my scooter but this king I have no clue what to look for or at or anything else!
I'm no expert hobo, but look at the Power Vision. I'm placing my order for one next week. There are a lot of other options out there for the newer bikes...the bigger ones are Thundermax, Power Vision, Fuel Pak...some of which have auto tune. All depends on what you are looking for and how fat your wallet is. Quick search on this site will make your eyes blurry.
Ya thats the issues im running into a thin wallet and the searches are enuf to drive ya bug nuts!
My 12 is pretty much straight up plus I have a forum of owners thats a God send of info and brains. So im kinda lost on this 01 lol

If the popping is only at wide open throttle then the stock AC could possibly help. I suspect it is popping on deceleration which the AC will have no effect on that or on popping in cruise area. If there is no exhaust leak then the popping is due to the mufflers leaning the mixture out by flowing much better than the old mufflers. Some sort of tuner is going to be required. You can buy a used one, but you still need a map for it to fix the lean condition which is causing the pop. You need to add from 5 to 10 in the first column of the fuel table on the PCV or PCIII. Don't think the standard PCV will work on 01 unless you have a retro one from Fuel Moto. Not sure about that.
