Dude, you know you still want the Indian. Don't worry you'll find a nice used one someday. Just keep checking for used chieftains and I'm sure eventually one will show up.
I like the Chieftan Vintage. Of course, I think the Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero looks pretty cool, also.
Yeah the Vintage is my favorite to LOOK at but i would never own a bike with laced wheels again and I already have that bike in Harley flavor so there is no way I would pay more for it than what I am riding now. The Chieftain was on my radar because I came from a long line of V twin metrics and frankly I was scared to death of HD's reliability. My last experience with HD was an FXRC in the 80's in Las Vegas that left me stranded in the desert a few times. So I was kind of sticking my toe in the water so to speak with the Road King while I waited for Indian's resale to tank , My thinking was the Indian gave me a traditional American bike with the reliability of a Japanese metric.
. It was more about reliability than anything else. I hate wrenching at my age and just want to "get and go" and have my Indy or a good dealer do the maintenance since I bought an ESP. The more i ride the less I worry about the bike.

If I see one for $12K I will buy it to have with the Harley. But if I am spending $23K on a bike, it will be the 2014 Road Glide. I never really took the time to really look at the bike until today because I wanted to see what $23k buys in Harley world. IMO A whole lot more.

Just got an email from buddy that works sales at local Victory dealer. they have been awarded the only Indian dealership in the state (there are several Victory dealers). They will have bikes in stock in 3 weeks. I will be test driving a demo as soon as possible.
My wife and I took a demo ride on the Chieftan last night and was very impressed. Polaris has done a good job on the Indians in my opinion. Would I trade my Road Glide for one? NO. Maybe in a couple of years. But it is a nice bike. To sit here and say f*#k Indian in just plain ignorant. A little competition will be great for the market.
Dealer called back this morning offering $13500 for my bike for a difference of $9600 All in. . Generous offer but Told them If I was going to spend that difference seriously I would get a 2014 Road Glide. The Indian is worth $5000 more than my bike Not a penny more. That's only my opinion based on what my bike is now worth to me and what the Indian is now worth to me in comparison.
Obviously I have assigned a higher value to my bike and a lower value to the Indian translated to I am really enjoying The Road King. That's a good think becasue I was pretty tentative about the bike early on. I guess I did not want to like it and the Indian was more "metric like" which I was used to.
Harley offers an intangible riding experience that I cannot describe and I am only now beginning to "get it" That said if the RK starts giving me issues, all bets are off. I cannot stomach silly issues like leaking bearings and seals on a 3000-15k mile bike.
Still trying to get used to the top end noise. Everyone says it's normal with a non roller rocker assembly. Still sounds like metal on metal slapping and tickingand that should not be a good thing.
May need to go to a louder pipe. or turn my tunes up

I agree. Did they ask about trading your RG in? I told my dealer I did not feel there was a $9000+ difference between my PK and their Indian and this after a $1000 Vet discount.
I don't know if HD is making bigger bikes because of Polaris or in spite of them. But if the Indian takes a sizable bite for harley's $23,000 market, HD will be forced to reckon with them.
Every $23K Indian sold is a Harley RG going unsold IMO Harley is the only other $23,000 bike out there in the traditional cruiser style.
Polaris sold about 5000 bikes in the first quarter. A long ways from Harleys 70K+ bikes.
