If I see one for $12K I will buy it to have with the Harley. But if I am spending $23K on a bike, it will be the 2014 Road Glide. I never really took the time to really look at the bike until today because I wanted to see what $23k buys in Harley world. IMO A whole lot more.
Where exactly did you, "Get what you deserved"?
It really sounds like you got sticker shock which can happen anywhere and says nothing about the bike themselves.
So why "***" indian? Guess I just don't understand where the "drama" is...
Yeah the Vintage is my favorite to LOOK at but i would never own a bike with laced wheels again and I already have that bike in Harley flavor so there is no way I would pay more for it than what I am riding now. The Chieftain was on my radar because I came from a long line of V twin metrics and frankly I was scared to death of HD's reliability. My last experience with HD was an FXRC in the 80's in Las Vegas that left me stranded in the desert a few times. So I was kind of sticking my toe in the water so to speak with the Road King while I waited for Indian's resale to tank , My thinking was the Indian gave me a traditional American bike with the reliability of a Japanese metric.
. It was more about reliability than anything else. I hate wrenching at my age and just want to "get and go" and have my Indy or a good dealer do the maintenance since I bought an ESP. The more i ride the less I worry about the bike.
but i would never own a bike with laced wheels again .... Never Ever Had A Problem With Spoked Wheels ... and if you keep responding to every reply to your original posting you'll never ever find time to enjoy your scooter ... just my .02 cents worth!
So I fill out online quote for an Indian with my bike as trade in a lark
They call me and offered $11,500 on trade for my 18 month old 2012 FLHR with 3k miles. I paid $16K for. As if.
Another $11,000 cash for a Polaris Chieftain. Not gonna happen in this decade,
And I qualified for $1000 discount being a Vet. Don't think I will be getting an Indian anytime soon. Not until they are worth $15K used and I can buy one and keep the Harley if I still think I want one at that time.
So I got exactly what I deserve and rode to Beach House Harley in NC and bought a shirt. I am sticking with the HD especially after seeing what $23,000 buys in Harley world.
Brand new Street Glide $23800 OTD. Plus $300 sales Tax in SC. Seems to me the Street Glide is a lot more bike than the Chieftain. They offered far more as well for mine. But I am going to keep it awhile. I know where I stand. Polaris is out of their minds.
The guys at Harley said wait till next year when Indians are selling used for $15K. I think I'll stay with Harley Davidson. There is no "book" an any Indain back to 2003. Loving my bike more and more with each ride.
BTW The Street Glide was a beauty. cleaned up the faring gauges very nice. When you put $24,000 in perspective the Indian does not hold a candle to a new Street Glide. I am guessing a lot of Harley riders who crossed over will return. That bike made me want to have somewhere to go.
You have made my day. Never thought I might hear this coming from you. Great bike you have. Enjoy!

I have picked up a couple screws over the past year and plugged them both and rode the bike, Spokes mean instant tow and adjustment and cleaning is a chore and they usually come with white walls again a chore. There is no "Zen of cleaning a Motorcycle" Book in my Library nor a toothbrush in my wash locker.
I am retired early so I can ride anytime. Rode 300 miles yesterday.
Weekends I only go to events and hangouts. Too many tourists on the roads here making panic turns and not knowing where they are going.
Besides this forum is a part of the Harley experience....even the wise asses.

Yeah it kind of creeped up on me and slammed me over the head. All I want is a reliable bike. If that bike is a Harley, I am a happy camper.

Yeah its a good feeling not to want something else more. I do lke the Indian but I am also getting the joys of a Harley again. Now I can loosen up the pocket book and have some needed mods done now that I am not in "wait and sell" mode. Buying the ESP was the first step. Like the Glide though, That IS worth $8K more to me. I may see what Harley will do on mine against a Street Glide.

Why would you be glad a thread is over? because you have no interest? or because its not a thread you started? Well I enjoy the Forum asshats and all,
many have been a great source of information a year ago when I started posting possible bikes to buy, Mostly mid 2000 TC88s for over $10K. Wiser people than I turned me away from those bikes.
Well you wish could come true. I am off the the Harley Boutique to see what they would do on a Street Glide......
