I have a 2012 SG, added a set SE-204 cams, just had it tuned at 95hp and 105tq...(what a great set of cams) I have noticed the stock clutch slipping a bit when you really get into it. The bike is still under warranty so I was thinking of just paying the extra and getting them to install the SE performance clutch plates. Are they worth it? or is there a good after market clutch that I can install? I do my own work as I installed the cams, so installing a set of clutches shouldn't be an issue.
The stock clutch pack is good for well over 110. Put in an SE spring and make sure you have adjusted the clutch as per the service manual, cold. Also I would make damn sure I didn't have any synthetic oil in the primary. I'd have HD formula+ in there or another non-syn primary fluid like drag specialties or rev tech.
I will change the fluid over. They did the first service at the dealer and added synthetic to it. I changed the engine oil only after a few thousand km as I'm not a fan of any synthetic oils. I will change out the primary oil this week. Thanks for the info!
Throw in a VPC and it won't increase the pull like the SE spring will.
It'll still may slip till the vpc kicks in at 3k. Late model tourers have a lite spring, like 280 lbs, stock before that was like 340, if I remember correctly.
