Now that I have an Oil Temperature gauge installed in the Fairing, what is the normal temperature under cruising speeds on flat roads, (baseline temperature). I used a digital temperature sensor in the oil cap in my 07 Ultra Classic before, but I couldn't see it until I was parked, and that could be as high as 250*, that I remember. Also, does anyone know at what temperature does the Oil Cooler adaptor thermostat opens, sending the oil through the cooler?
Thanks, I'll try to see if that is happening. The manual states that if the thermostat isn't opening to replace the entire adaptor. Just want to make sure it is working properly.
Thermostat is a simple themo-mechanical actuator, it starts to move at 180F, it is fully open at 220F. There is no common "normal" oil temp, over time you will establish what is normal for your bike under different operating conditions. Sustained highway speed is where the oil will get the hottest, the faster and longer you go, the hotter it gets.
