If you are thinking about a Hard Drive based mp3, check out Archos.com. They are a bit pricey, but they are the best you can buy. I velcro mine to my tank and the buttons are big enough to operate with gloves on. I've been using it like this for almost two years. The older ones (like mine) have rubber bumpers on each corner, very durable.
Nano is the way to go. Nice little screen on it too. I have tried the larger 60GB hard drive version and it doesn't last. My 15 GB 3rd gerneration iPod was tougher and would work but the 5th generation is too sensitive - especially on a Harley. You can get the cradle and mounting hardware for a Nano from RAM mounts, if you want it on your handlebars. Works slick.
Electrical Connection also makes an iPod adapter that includes the flat plug that goes into the bottom of the iPod, instead of using the 3.5mm plug on the top. This means you don't have to adjust the volume on the iPod at all, as the flat plugsends a constant signal to the head unit on the bike. The adapter need to be wired in so is a bit of work (put inside the fairing and feed the cable out). Also, the adapter can behot wired so the flat plug runsthe iPod off the bike's power and will continue charging the Nanofor a while after you turn the bike off.
07's have mp3 players? waz up. Also a lot of devices will draw current if directly connected to battery even when bike is off. like zumo 550 . use acc switch to avoid this and some other good reasons.
