I am considering some apes for my bike. I am thinking of 14" and was wondering if the Street Glide mirrors I have mounted will still be usable with 14 inchers. I don't mind moving my elbows a bit to use them, I just don't want them completely blocked. I will not be moving the mirrors to the bars as I am not needing the antennae-that-can-contact-Mars look. Just wondering what others experience is with fairing mounted mirrors and apes. I am 5'6"
Also, how is the quality of Hill Country Customs bars and such? I am looking at one of their basic packages with stainless lines.
I just put 13" cycle smiths on my 14 SGS. The fairing mirrors did not work for me. I am 6'4". I put the earth to mars antennas on. Coming off an 09 SG they are tough to get used to. Definitely had a better view behind me with the old mirrors. Hard to find a balance between looks and function.
Good luck.
I'm 6 even with 14 Kst mayhems and can see just fine with the stock mirrors no issues at all.. I've never heard anything bad about hcc.. a quality pre wired kit makes the install a **** load faster but cost more
i'm 6'4 and i have 14" monkey bars(these bar are like most other companies 16"bars) on my 09 sg and i can use the stock mirrors perfectly. i too didn't want the antenna look.
09 street glide here, I went with Burly 14" Apes and I use the stock mirrors as I did not want aftermarket mirrors. 5' 10" longer torso then legs and I do need to left my elbows some with a t shirt on and a lot more with a jacket on.
Thanks for the replies. I'm sure there will be some restriction with the fairing mirrors but I can live with it. Next obstacle will be mounting my GPS. I use a ball mount in the mirror stalk hole at present. I am hoping I can mount that from the bottom of the housing and put the GPS on the bottom side of the bars, hopefully high enough to clear the tank and console on full turn. I really hate to wrap a clamp around expensive ape hanger bars.
HCCs are really good. I was told they were changing hand control housing suppliers when I had a problem with mine.
Anyway, I like having my mirrors closer to eye level and the shorter stem ones look fine IMO. I couldn't deal with the stock mirrors, inset too narrow IMO.
i ran my wild1's 14''s on my SG for almost 30K with stock mirroirs, no problem. depending on the way i rested my arms i would have to lift my elbow sometimes but other than that they were great
