Changed my oil. I run the same oil I always do. Not looking for an oil debate. I used 1 Qt. to fill it. I think it may be a tiny bit overfull (1/8 of an inch over full mark). Will that hurt anything It does clunk in each gear when I shift, but I can't remember if it did it before or not. I know it clunked in going from Neutral to 1st for sure. 13 flhx
Yes it will "clunk" A way to stop the " clunking" in to pull clutch while starting. Then before putting it in gear I hold the clutch for about twenty secs. Then I put it in gear and usually smooth engagement. You will be fine 1 in trans, 1 in primary, 3 1/2 in engine warm up and check should put level right so you do not get blow by out the airfilter.
Each hole has a level to which the oil should be filled, shown in the owners manual, so just fill it to the level! Doesn't matter how much it takes, as long as you have enough. As for the clunk, having owned Harleys for forty years I can confirm they all do it, when engaging first, first thing. Ride and enjoy.....

Pretty sure the manual says 28oz. You've overfilled it, might not be a big deal though.
The overfilled primary is what causes the clunk (it drowns the clutches and tends to make them drag more even with the clutch pulled in). 1/8" on the transmission dip stick is not going to hurt anything. If it was too full, when hot, it could come out the vent hose which is not good. However, lets face the facts, I know you are going to loose sleep over this, yell at the wife and kids and probably kick the dog. So why not just wait till it's cool and take a 3 big Hardee's red straws and stick down in there and hold your thumb over the end and pull a few ounces out. Or just use the wifes baster, it's still clean oil. (don't tell Susie, but I guess that's another problem)
Considering how horizontal the transmission dip stick is, it makes reading it for accurate values highly suspect. Over filled might cause a bit of foaming, but I highly doubt it.
