Roadglide Restore
I was thinking about this bike when I was discussing paint jobs with my girlfriend the other day. You know what I haven't seen? A bike with chalkboard paint. I know it sounds weird as hell, but if you have kids or neighbor kids, they can do designs on it and when it has no design on it, it's a flat grey/black.
Was your Dad a TV repairman???
It amazes me how someone can let a bike go like that. Also the chrome on these bikes sucks !! the chrome on my 67 pontiac is still shiny and solid even after being outside 30 years.
Please keep us posted on the progress, I am very interested to say the least.

I'm all about the build. I've never owned a bike for very long that I didn't tear down and completely rebuild. The Road Glide in my sig pic is an ex-cop Road King, but there's no way of telling short of decoding the VIN.
I'd plan on tearing that one down to the frame. You can strip a Harley touring bike to the frame in half a day. I'd love to see what you wind up doing, but seriously, you need to post smaller pictures. My browser gave up before all your pics loaded.

Ya know, I think a good buffer will work...
It's a heck of a challenge, and like I was expecting, there's more underneath the grime.
Thank you sir! I'm about the build, the journey.
Yeah, it was!
I have 4 kids, 13, 10, 2 and 11 months. I've been thinking about this and I don't know how it would hold up long term and I doubt the chalkboard surface would be usable if clear coated. But a cool idea none the less.
The chrome is cheap. Like really cheap. Back in my High School days, the old shop teacher used to make extra cash by triple chrome dipping (copper, nickel, chrome) parts and selling them at swap meets. These parts aren't triple dipped. I'm going to cerakote I believe.
I got a good way there today. I stripped bags and seat and was about to do tank but decided I should work my way front to back so I started on the front brake lines, which I'm almost all the way done with. I've got another OEM take off set ordered to replace the nasty ones.
As for the pics, probably not going to happen. The forum should auto-resize and I know a lot of people like to have a nice sized image to look at.
It is a carb bike, which is nice.

What browser are you using? I use chrome on every device I view this forum with (laptop, MacBook, iPhone, iPad) and it resizes them on all every device.
Since the last post I've swapped the big 3 areas of fluid and pulled both outer and inner fairings. Blown out a lot of the grass and mess that had accumulated in it. The inner fairing needs a bit of clean up so I'm thinking about converting it to a Road King.
