I have been thinking very hard about putting one on my Road Glide, we put one on a guys bike here in town, and he has had zero issuses with it. I was a little concerned they would be hard on bulbs, but it's been 9 months and he rides a lot, no bulb problems yet, and it really really shows up well. I am sure that in a group of people if it was behind you it might get a little distracting, but it beats the hell out of getting run over by a kid on a cell phone.
I had a modulator on my last Goldwing. I know it aggravates some people (riders) but I swear cars saw me sooner and more reliably than before I installed it. The truth is I put almost 8000 miles on last year and ZERO cars attempted to pull into my path! I swear by them.
I just got my 2000 Ultra and plan on installing one. What brand are you using on HD’s??
Ah used the Kisan unit - mounted the sensor on the right side of the upper inner fairing. VERY simple install - literally a plug-n-play setup!
Here's an idea of the sensor location - actually, you don't even hafta remove the front fairing to do this, as you can see - plenty of room ta feed the wire!
With an H-D HID head lamp, I've often thought about getting one for the "passing lamps" they are bright as h3ll. And I thought that would work better for my situation!
Yeah - had considered the HID unit as well, which is what delayed me installin' a modulator. Once ah opted fer the dual-beam standard unit, then it let me go with the modulator...
P115W-S isthe plug-in unit for the Ultra Glide -it mounts directly onto the headlight plug inside the fairing, an' modulates the center lamp as hi-beam.
If you want to modulate the two side lamps, it will take a bit more. The unit that can do that is a splice-in version, sowill require additional wiring to connect them.
I have one on my bike it works well, it only works when you are on high beam and as others say it has a light sensor that shuts it off when dark. If for some reason you don't want it to work switch to low beam. I do this some times at dusk so that it is not annoying to everyone.
