I am going to install the antenna and power for the xm receiver under the Fairing along with the ez-pass unit
Questions:
(1) The xmantenna has a magnet so I willmount it on top of the radio and I will mount the ez-pass unit with velcroto the inside of the outer fairing just above the head light. Will the ez-pass unitor the xmantenna interfere with each other causing one orboth not to work properly because they are so close ?
(2) I would like to install the power for the xmunitinside the fairing, do I cut the end off the power cord and attach it directly to the cigarette lighter?
(3) Where do you bring the wire for the xm antenna and powerout of the inner fairing, I don't want to drill a hole if I don't have to
You can't cut the power cord and by-pass the cigarette lighter plug on these units....they are 6V and need the plug to change to 12V...plus it houses the FM modulator....you'll need to simply install a cigarette plug receiver behind the fairing and tape in the Roadie's power plug...I used the empty power taps on the headlight harness
In Illinois as long as the plate is tied to the transponder ID your account gets charged automatically this can be done on line or over the phone. Soooooooooooo my transponder stays at home. This was a US mailed document supplied by the state notifying that this would be the case and i think you had the option to opt out. All of my vehicles are tied to 1 unit.
How did you come upon getting this letter? I called I-Pass office this morning and they told me that transponder needs to be with whatever vehicle you are driving on the tollway. I also have mine tied to 2 vehicles. Thanks and have a good one.
I'm not sure the EZ pass will be read from under the fairing and I don't think you'll get maximum reception for the XM under there either.
EZ PAss told me to just drop the EZ Pass Unit into one of my leather windshield pouches and that would be fine. It isn't. It doesn't get read most of the time. I had to put it on the windshield or have it visible and not covered by anything. I just tuck it behind the three across windshield pouches with a thin rubber backing strip so it doesn't scratch the windshield. They also make handlebar mounts & other windshield mounts for it.
As far as the XM goes (I have SIRIUS), I put double stick Velcro on the back of the antennae and mounted it on the flat surface of the left top side of the dash right next to the joint between the fairing & the dash, so the wire just slips into the joint and is not visible. It's then routed to the other side of the dash, behind the fairing, and comes out through the grommet and up with the rest of the wires to the radio cradle. Looks very clean. Be happy to send photo's, if you'd like.
