Totally Not necessary for a stage 1.
A canned map works just fine
For a stage II, I would say yes for the dyno.
Now if and when you decide to cam you will have to dyno again.
Go ahead, do it yourself, and burn it up (seen it happen 2 times). You well never achieve full potential, or well never know. It's an endless topic on who's right.

BS. The fact is that many dealers don't sick-em about dyno-ing, let alone tuners.
The dealership wants you to believe that only "their product is the one" when in fact there are many decent tuners available.
You can get free maps on line from Dyno-jet.
Fuel Moto helps out guys all the time.

gthank you all for the input. i bought it used with 9k miles. it has four inch reinharts and stock ac. since all i was concerned about was maybe a lean mixture, then a dyno tune should adjust for non stock exhaust and i should be good to go. im 66 yrs old and factory 96 has all the power i need for a cruiser, id just like to know e is in a good state of tune since exhaust has been changed. thank you all for you help. if im still an old hound barking up the wrong tree please respond. i think i got your message and again i appreciate it.tommytailspin
