I would recommend the Road King, and I have just the one you need. I have a 2014 Limited and find it hard to split my time between the two.

the difference between the FLHTK and FLHR is a couple of hours with a wrench.

really they are the same bike under the skin, plastic and speakers is the difference.

the frame, drivetrain, front end and suspension are the same.

so not much different if different is what you are looking for.

purely opinion:

i personally hate softails- I don't like the chassis

I love my FXR that's an evo.

I like "Classic" Shovelhead FLH and Panhead aesthetics- a great Shovel can be had for $10K max.

and there are other types- Ducatis, Triumphs and Moto Guzzis could all be options

Like posted above, the ride quality will be about the same if you go with the RK. Same bike under the fairings. The heritage will give you a completely different ride so you'll know your on a different bike. A lot of guys I know love the low seat height and the ride of a softail frame.
I would chose the heritage if your looking for something different.

Don't know about the road king, but I had 2 FLSTC's and put around 80,000 miles on them , then I traded for a FLHX and the heritage was a much better ride than the street glide. I know I will get called out on this but the heritage was a better quality ride even after I put 2-2b Ohlins on the street glide. PS I love my street glide, but just giving an honest opinion.

I'm not a fan of the softail either. The B motor give some vibration at speed. The Heritage is a comfortable bike though. If you already have the touring platform why not look into a Dyna? Wide Glide is a good looking motorcycle. I chose a different brand all together for a second bike. I wanted 2 completely different experiences and am happy with my choice.

what do you want out of the second bike? since you have an ultra, you may like something completely different like the new dyna low rider. the heritage is a very nice bike if you want a windshield and bags. as you can se from my sig, I have different bikes for different moods.

Well, as you se by my bike list, I think that having a Touring bike and a Softail is a great idea. Around town the balance and light weight of the Softail make it a dream.
