Oh I agree jd, it seems to be just the last few years and it's pretty consistant. I don't know if they changed the thickness of the leather, the supplier, etc. But up here in Canada, when you spend over 22,000 for a RK, you expect the bags to last years............not weeks
Rarebone, That ain't "normal" and doesn't add character. I've ridden my 01 RKC in all kinds of weather - and some damned heavy rain and the bags never did what yours have. Back to the stealer for a bit of a heart-to-heart. Hope you get it squared away!!
The leather shrunk so much from sun and rain exposure that the plastic underneath actually buckled and cracked, and in a couple of places broke clean through.
I spent a day this winter soaking and forming and weighting down the lid and finally got it back in shape. It lasted less than a day of riding and had shrunk back to this.
I got my RKC last June and the bags did not look like that. Wouldn't except that. They even sat out in the rain once(by the POS dealer I bought it from). They still don't look like that. Since then I have conditioned them twice and look forward to manyyears of use out of them. I wouldtake themback to the dealer. Period!
Oh yeah, congrats on the new ride.
hard bags don't do that. I would raise as much hell as necessary as many times as I had to to get it fixed, but I am **** like that[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]
I bought a new 06 March 1st and mine have not done that. The bags have been in the rain and while it gets loose when they are wet it dried back normally. But it never got loose to the extent you showed.
The lesson I did learn was condition the bags as soon as you get them so the water beads off and does not pool on them. It does leave a telltale sign if you look closely.[:@]
my left bag looks like that- just not as bad. i found that if you use some of the supplied leather conditioner, itll moisturize the leather and get back into shape.
i did that and it helped some- but its still not as tight as the right side.
if it stays like this- ill be asking for a new lid.
