Good luck with your experiment on this compensator noise problem. I have an '09 RG with 40k+ miles on it with the original compensator still in place. I think I have been using Redshift primary lube for the last 20 - 30K miles, don't know exactly because I don't keep very good records and I can't say for sure that it has made a difference. From what I have heard some compensators just last longer than others. I have an SE compensator on hand in case this one fails, but it is the old style. Since you all don't seem to be having any better luck with the A's I may well use it if and when the original gives up.
There was another thread called BDL Compensator that dochawken responded to on 05/14/14 that got a response from a new member called preacher365 who said he had a BDL compensator ruin his crankshaft because the "teeth broke and it spun on the crankshaft". I have asked him to send pictures to me at a personal e-mail since he only has 4 posts so he can't post pictures or send them by PM to my knowledge. I have a wait and see attitude on this because if the fit was correct and the installation was correct it is pretty difficult to destroy the teeth like this. I also have some reservation about someone suddenly appearing with this kind of problem that is a new member with only 4 posts and all of them were in that thread. Another member had someone running down his product this way and finally had to get his lawyer to contact them to cease and desist with the trolling. The main reason it bothers me is I am really considering using a BDL compensator so if there is something wrong with it I want to know and I know they have had problems in the past, but if the new revision is a good product I want to know that also. The problem they had in the past didn't have anything to do with teeth breaking. I'm still waiting for the pictures and if they show up I will post them on that thread.
I cannot comment on what has happened to a guy in other thread, but I had BDL comp in my 09 FLHTP for more then 20.000 km of hard riding and was really happy with it. It was still not making any noise when I traded the bike.
Any updates? My new comp is on the bench and the old is getting ready to be removed so I'm thinking about adding that extra spring. Just wondering if you've had any issues?
The guy with the BDL that threw craps posted this "the compensator is at the repair shop when i pick up my bike i will ask for it and try and get you some pictures." That was on the 22nd of May, nothing yet.
No I was wondering if oldhippie had any new updates from adding the extra spring to the new comp. I added it anyways when I put the new comp on a couple of minutes ago so I'll see for myself.
Interested as well. Following on both forums. I have all my old comps and am running the pre 2014 comp. I might add the washer as my new motor will be a S&S 124".
OK, Sorry I just got back from trip yesterday. Lots of fast back-country twisties and north coast mountains. No problems, except for a burnt out turn signal blub. Shifts fine and no noise with welded tensioner. Only really got comp rattle when I tried to take off in second (maybe third) one time??? Will rattle a little free reving but not near as much as before. No rattle at idle like before. Overall a big improvement!

I installed the extra spring today but I need to have the dealer find out whats wrong with my bike before I can test it out.

Well I just got back from putting around downtown and the idle rattle came back???? Hot and slow??
When I installed my hayden I was getting a lot of rattle, I ended up putting the stock primary chain tentioner back on today while I was doing the comp. Thankfully the rattle was gone when I started it up after the install.
