Yes I did not glue in the plastic "funnel" thingy. Someone really needs to "show" me how it helps??
Adjustment is, grind out weld, reset and reweld. But really, I have a supply of stock tensioners to weld up if adjustment is needed. Seldom remember having to adjust old manual adjusters???
My "indy" has been been doing this compensator mod on a few (6-8) big motors (110+ hp) for a while with good results on small sample. He just started the welded tensioner mod. I'm the first with both.
Yes new compensator is latest and greatest A type.
once you get about 15k or so miles on your bike and unless you're torturing your drive train the chain won't stretch much over the rest of it's life so most times no further adjustment would be necessary. Welding the tensioner is a hell of lot smarter than that stupid snake oil from hayden. That thing had my chain so tight it wasn't even funny. Then add to that the 2500+ miles I put on the hayden and the SOB still made the same annoying noise it did when I first put it in that was supposed to dissipate after 200 - 300 or 300 - 400 miles depending on which part of their website you're reading.
good mod oldhippie and welcome to the "welded club"

i'm seeing a trend here. every year you go on a big trip. every year you have some kind of problem. the solution is simple, don't go on a trip
you know it's just jealousy right? you'll be up in gettysburg, and i'll be here working rotation, again......
hope they get you taken care of shortly, and correctly.
Skratch, that is WRONG on so many levels. But, hey, you made it right!
HD_Rolling, sounds like an injector problem. With the bigger motor, and I'm no expert on this, I think even with the 5.8 injectors they might cycle longer, so I think the one that is only cycling 3-4 is the one giving you problems. After all, it was running OK when they were both cycling long.

ah, he knows i'm just yanking his chain. we used to ride together a bit until he decided that he wanted to retire from the military and move to the east coast. more twisties, cooler temps, closer to lots of other events...... focker!
