Ok, so what do you recommend for my size. Im getting close to make the call for a 2014 road king. But because of my height (5'5" tall), I need to make sure that I can make this bike able to flat footed on both feet. I have rented this bike already and I need to stand up and can flat foot on one leg only. If I can somehow lowered it without scarifying its lean angle. I found an aftermarket shock, its the progressive 944 for about $600. It says I can lower the bike for 1inch but will not shorten its suspension travel. If you have a pair shocks that is about the same price and has the same features then I may consider it.
Current bike is superglide custom with mustang reduced reached seat with backrest, progressive 444 rear shocks, 16" pullback handlebar, forward foot controls.
Thank you

Default ohlins

What kind of warranty do the ohlins have and how often do they need a rebuild? Thanks.

I have a pair of highly modified 3-2's from Howard, and I won't run anything else. The valving has been modified, and the mounts hve been modified so that the length is now closer to a 3-3 than a 3-2.

I originally installed them on my 2010 Limited, and with a 28" inseam, had no problem flat-footing the bike. I had Howard lengthen the mounts after a season, as the seat compressed during the year, and since they were in for a rebuild anyway, I thought I'd add as much stroke as possible.

They are now mounted to my 2014 Limited and I couldn't ask for a better ride. See this thread: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...alcan-hwy.html

I have Howard rebuild my shocks over the winter each year - but then I'm running 25-30K miles on them each season. Great to be retired!

Phone Howard! He will talk things through with you and make sure you get the correct length and spec shocks, including spring weight. Lots of us have done just that!

Default Kudos to Howard!

Have had my Ohlins #6's on for a few weeks now.

This evening, went for a shakedown ride with the wife, the '14 Limited loaded up for full two-up touring for 11 days on the road, beginning next weekend.

If you have ever felt like a big touring bike was taxing the suspension with this kind of load, you would be amazed at how capable this feels.

Small bumps absolutely disappear, stable as can be, no chassis droop, smoother than siding solo, could drag a floorboard through cloverleaf turns if desired.

If you want a heavy hauler to handle like a dream, run, don't walk, to the phone and call Howard now.

Absolutely worth every penny.

You can thank me later.

Seem Howard is a GO-TO guy when it comes to personalized Ohlins for our Harleys. Great info, great stuff. But what do we do about the front end? The fairing-laden end front ends of our FL tourers and Street/Road Glides aren't exactly Nightrain-light and surely could use some help, too, yes? I've ridden over some bad Calif. roads that taxed the front suspension/forks vigorously and harshly....not cool...not cool at all.

Howard can help you there too! He has an Ohlins 30mm cartridge conversion with all the bells and whistles for 49mm forks, plus a newly available 25mm cartridge for 41mm forks, which have just become available, so it may be early days for them at present.

I know, old thread--but I'm a fan, too. I installed some #2-3 (13ź") Ohlins on my SG about six years ago and if not the best mod I've made to this bike it's certainly in the top three. Okay, the 255 cams were probably the best, come to think about it. I have a 30" inseam and can flat-foot the bike with my boots on, or nearly so.

I love the feeling of doing a 700 mile day, and still want to ride more. Like Howard basically said above... you get what you pay for, and Ohlin's + Howard is an unbeatable combo.
Good investment indeed. Friends who ride with me complain about the rough roads and I'll reply, "Really?"

i recently got the #3-#3's. i have a 29" inseam. setting up the suspension sag and rebound is pretty important and that will get you flat footed and a great ride. adjusting between 2up and solo is pretty easy. i highly recommend them.
