Default Tapered rods

Can some motor experts explain to me why this tapered rod can with Stand around 500psi cylinder pressure but is not good enough to be in a harley with on a good day makes maybe 150psi cylinder pressure. Only problem I see is you can not ream a tapered bushing but the later model Harley's do not have a wrist pin bushing. Automobile rods don't have a wrist pin bushing either and go for way over 100,000 easy but it is junk in a harley. Had people tell me this and I think all they want is to take your money for stuff you do not have to have. I am no falling for it little smarter than that.

Harley rods are nested together - one goes around the other - not side by side like a chevy.

Also, there is a much smaller hole, which is the crankcase, preventing too large of a rod or it will hit the outer hole circumference. Harley engines have a comparatively longer stroke than V8 engines.

Of all the shitty substandard parts inside a Harley engine, oddly, the rods seem to be pretty good. Now if you can figure out how to put a Chevy ls crank and valve train in a Harley engine, you'll be on to something good....

Default ones ive seen do

any car motor ive worked on has replaceable rod bearing with locating pins to keep them from turning,, oil is also fed under pressure thorugh the crank and comes out inside the rod bearing under pressure, its that pressure that is supposed to take the force of the load not so much the face of the bearing. no idea whats on crank end of the harley. guess i need to open my shop manual and see.

My 2008 FLHTC spun a wrist pin bushing at 10k miles. It is a piece of junk. I don't know why they would use substandard parts. Had to pull the crank. Darkhorse fixed me up with square push rods. My next bike is going to be another EVO.

Like most harley parts, Nothing really wrong with them in a stock bike/engine with the normal Geezer riding it. More than that, not so much...

Not trying to put a rod like this in a harley. People say the tapered rods are no good in a harley. My point is if a tapered rod will work In a diesel it will be fine in a harley. I am talking about the taper where the wrist pin goes just showing the picture to show a diesel rod has a taper also and if it strong enough for a diesel it will never give a problem in a harley motor.

I got a dark horse crank sitting in a box. I under stand the bushing can spin and like I said you can not ream a tapered wrist pin It has to be pin bored. I had dark horse put later model rods on mine that do not even have a wrist pin so I would not have to worry about it ever slipping. They tried to sell me the high dollar square top rods but the tapered rods are plenty strong enough. Point is if you got the later model no wrist pin bushing tapered rod you will never have a failure in the wrist pin area.

Did you notice the tapered rods have no oil hole in the top of the rod? I suppose this may have had something to do with my failure. I think they need more lubrication. A hole would help.
