i am trying to hook up a hd tach on my 04 road king, according to the schematic there is no factory wire for this, does anyone know where to look for wire??
just did the mini-tach on my 05, is that the one you are installing? if it is... on the speedometer plug there is one open slot that has a pink plug in it. wire the pink wire under the tank. there is a retainer in the plug holding all the wires in the female end. pull the retainer, slide your pink lead in and replace the retainer. plug it back into the speedo. as long as your + and - are connected properly it should work. did it come with the destructions?
I installed the mini tach on my 2004 Road King Classic. The instructions told me to look for a pink wire under the console. I remove the console but could not see any pink wire. I guess I was supposed to look for a pink plug. Instead I ran the wire from the tach uner the tank and seat and connected it to the pink wire under the right side cover. The tach works fine but my cruise control stopped working around that time. I'm not sure if it was to do with the tach hook up or not. I'm going to pull the console and see if I can locate the pink plug.
If you look under the console on the speedo plug in the number 3 position you will find the tack. signal that you need. You will need a wire end terminal from a dealer P/N 74196-04 , to insert into the speedo plug #39B and the other connections for power and ground and you should be good to go.

Can someone tell me what color is the wire in the number 3 position? I too am attempting to install an aftermarket tach on a 2004 RK carburetted along with a digital fuel gauge speedo combination. I'm going by the manufacturer's instructions which are a joke and I have my bike manual which isn't descriptive enough for installing aftermarket parts. Any help/ suggestions with wire colors or explanations on which wires to use for this install would definitely be appreciated. I have been all over the internet and YouTube to avail. I would call the manufacturer but I don't speak Chinese. Basically, my speedometer was smashed when I got the bike, so I thought I would go digital. The instructions has a wire to hook to VS and a second wire to hook to speed signal. Looks like they are both the same wire in the manual? But manual and everything else shows VSS which adds more confusion. So far, VSS stands for vehicle speed sensor, what does the VS stand for, same? And if so, which wire do I hook to it? Sorry so long, as you can see, it's getting very frustrating! Thanks for any advice!
