Default 2014 SG air or spring suspension?

I'm looking to upgrade the rear suspension my my 14 SG. I had the shotgun shock system on my 2011 softail but was wondering what to do to this bike. What do you recommend air or spring shocks, and by what maker?

A shock thread is like an "oil" thread.
Your going to get all kinds of opinions of what is "best".

My opinion is that a spring shock will be better than an air shock.
That still leaves it open for debate on what brand/model of spring shock.

What one person might think is best, is only average for someone else.

How much are you willing to spend?
What type of riding do you do?
1-up or 2-up?

Lots of options out there.
I have the 13" HD Premium hand adjustable shocks on my Street Glide and am perfectly happy with them.
Of course there are better shocks, but then they will cost more too.

I was doing some research a month or so on a shock change. Seems like the spring type has the best ratings. Progressive 944's and ohlins seem to Get great reviews. I opted to try changing the oil in the shocks to 10 w oil, and made a huge difference. Cost me $11 and some time.

Might be worth a try if you want to keep things on a low budget

I did hit the search and my thread showed. Nobody is forcing you to reply. The man said the progressives are getting good reviews so I'll check them out. That's all I wanted to know.

Ok, well I'll tell you the HD premium hand adjustable shocks get good reviews too.
The Ohlins and some other top of the line shocks get "great" reviews.

Just about any shock other than the factory "air shocks" get more good reviews than bad.

I sure wouldn't make a purchase based on one or two comments.

PPL waste lots of money buying stuff based off of personal reviews. While I do "review" and beg for reviews from PPL, I also realize that they are opinions and I continue my own research far after I've read reviews. Too many variables when buying shocks, which is why I haven't yet-----how much do you weigh, how much does your wife weigh, 1 up or 2 up riding, where do u live---lots of potholes or the roads are great, what kind of shape are you in? I've found the last question to be the most important because an athletic guy may be fine with XYZ while a non-athletic guy with health issues may find XYZ to be horrible.

Happy shopping bro!! I was gonna get the shocks RollaMo has because I've found good and bad reviews of the HD ones and the Progressive ones....figure I'd just stick with HD. But now, I'm adding stretched bags and want air---so more reviews!!!!

Probably true....the winter frost beats the crap out of the roads and most cities don't put a very high emphasis on repairing all the potholes.

Good shock are a requirement!

I can always tell when I cross back into my home state of Oklahoma. Stock shocks have been ok for us in Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri. Oklahoma should face criminal charges for it's road maintenance we have turnpikes that suck worse than 2 lane blacktop in any of the aforementioned states. Shocks are a planned upgrade just need to find the right deal.
