2012 SG 12,000 miles, Just posted a primary noise question the other day, come to find out the compensator is gone. I was told to go with a Baker. After reading I think that's what I'm doing . Thanks all...

I have Hayden units on my 02FXD and 05 FXDLI, they've been installed for a long time and no problems. I installed the Hayden on my 2013 RGU at 1,500 miles, just removed it today (5,560 miles) and reinstalled the stock unit. The howling noise was just horrendous, the shoe was worn down to the rollers on the chain and the shoe was pitted. Rode to the dealer bike night tonight and boy what a difference, nice and quiet.

Like the stock HD tensioner, the Hayden adjust up and down, via the springs, when the bike is put under load.

The Baker does not, it stays in a fixed position fixed under load.

My understanding is that the OEM tensioner ratchets tighter, but does not loosen. The. Hayden is spring loaded. The Baker is adjustable but fixed. Is this not correct?

I've ran the Hayden on two different bikes and never had a problem with them. I like the concept...makes more sense to me than a fixed tensioner.

Ive had mine in now for close to 10k, checked it twice and its as good as the day I installed it. Only need to check it every 7k or so, chain stretch in 10k is zero.

Correct.

The stock HD tensioner only ratchets up to tighten, but the whole assembly also bounces up & down (like the Hayden).

I like the Baker attitude adjuster, real easy to inspect and adjust. I don't have to guess if a spring is helping or hurting.

The issue with the Hayden that it is too short and the loop over the tensioner has a bit of angle on it.. Anyone that like to use the motor for compression braking will chew on of these up on a new model bike (6 speed)... The later bikes have use a 34 / 46 sprockets compared to the 25/36 or 24/37 of the early TC.. The early TC had room to place the tensioner under the chain inside the primary without to much angle on the chain..
