Engine Temp?
I did a search before posting- probably is info someplace,just did not get it.
I was riding today for about an couple of hours, open roads mostly 55-75 mph
and my engine temp on the PV was 240 - 250 range, crept to 260 while waiting at a lights once i got back in town riding in 25-35 mph traffic.
Sunny and high 70's today. I think the 250 temp is sort of high, is it?
I had my bike dyno tuned last Summer and I did not get the AFR reading with the sheet, my mpg 45.5 freeway for 73 mph, and 47-48 mpg at 55mph -60 mph highway riding.
I e-mailed the shop where I had the dyno tune performed to see if they saved a record of the tune, perhaps the AFR will show a possible lean condition? I get no ping. I do notice right thigh feels some engine heat.
I changed the oil last Sept, ( 3000 mile intervals & I use the scavenger method) , the oil is not even dark, and i have about 1000 miles to go but will change ASAP so, i do not think oil is broke down to not provide its ability to lube and cool the engine.
What is the normal range for engine temperature in 70-80 degree weather?

Considering 185-200 is operating temp for water cooled 250 270 doesn't seem out of line for air cooled. These Harleys are way hotter than that in stock form. Sounds like you can forget about the tuning now and just ride.

If the dyno tuner used the PV to tune then the map is saved in the PV.

The temp of 250 you are seeing should be headT which is the sensor at back of front cylinder. engine temp display is a calculation of the sensors to estimate overall temp and was shown higher. EIMTS kicks in around 280 abut the temp could go higher

Okay, thanks. I will check the gauge to see if it is headT.
I do have the tuned saved in the PV.... i suppose I can monitor AFR's front and rear and see what that is in real time.
I did want the printed hard copy of the AFR's on the dyno sheet. ( dyno sheet is in my albums )

OK, I suspect your a noob with the PV. research power vision, download the software onto your laptop, get the cable to plug into PV to puter and you can open the map, print the tables yourself

Disregard the "HeadT" for temperature monitoring purposes, ET is the front cylinder head temp, it is much more stable and accurate. This is the feedback I got from Pat at DynoJet, still waiting a more in depth answer on the "HeadT" from the engineers. HeadT is an ECM logarithm value derived from several inputs, its not a real measured value. This new HeadT value is an excellent source of confusion to an already misunderstood topic, eventually I will get a real answer but in the interim I recommend monitoring ET for an accurate front head temp. BTW 240-260 is not anything to be alarmed about.
