Is it a matter of time before CAN BUS can be hacked or virus loaded through a borrowed CD played on the Stereo.
Sounds like science fiction until you read some of DARPA findings on hacking and controlling cars with CAN BUS.
Hell I didnt even know Harley Davidsons had a CAN BUS until I tried to blow the horn on my 2014 road king and there was a delay from network protocol.
Lots of people coding this stuff already. Just put a new replacement battery in my BMW, had to pay to have it coded. Swapped to aftermarket tail lights, had to get them coded too.
Seems like the biggest problem will be when OEM's start inserting code that will prevent any aftermarket electrical component or coding from being installed. You will then be trapped into going to the stealership for almost every service or repair.
It's amazing what can be hacked, and why people would even want to... read a story the other day about pacemakers being hacked, allowing someone to speed up or shut down someone's pacemaker.
I seen a News show where a guy demonstrated hacking into a car. He was shutting off the brakes and turn off the power steering while the reporter was driving it.
It makes me wonder about the accidents that have no explanation.
