Default Purposely denting the chrome

I have the V&H Propipe and this dang rubber mounted engine shakes so much the front head pipe cover hits the bottom of the rear floor board support. I have the 3/4" floorboard extensions and it still hits. Only notice it when idling. I was going to remove the floorboard and gently put a dent into the bottom of the pipe cover right where it was hitting. Was going to use a wood 1X1 and bang it with a hammer. Anyone try anything like this? Assuming the chrome will pop off is it a good idea to put some primer on that spot?

You might try going to a machine shop and have them put it in a press to GENTLY push it in. Tape up the shield first how ever you do it and the chrome should be o.k.

How old is the bike? Maybe it's time to change out the rubber mounts. My old EVO would shakes like bastard. My Indi changed out the mounts and it was like night and day

It's an 02 and has 16,000 miles. Can't imagine the mounts are bad already.

12 year old rubber, could you extend your floor board out a touch?

I would check to see if your motor mount is bad. Did you look at the mount? Actually 12 years is a long time for that motor mount.

It's about how old mine were when they had to be replaced.

your front mount gets oil on it when you change the filter. I would bet this mount is bad. The pipe should not touch the floorboard

Just went through that with a 05 with 15,000 miles. The mount looked new. Took it out and compared. The rubber had turned loose from the metal binding. Now it is like it should be.

It can be reformed easy enough though if need be. I just wrap it so the chrome does not get scratched. Put it in a vice and squeeze it slightly until you get it where you want it shaped to. Be careful you may over do it.

Sure...could very well be bad. Rubber ages regardless of mileage...not to mention the issue with oil from the filter tainting the front mount. Do not pass go. Replace the rubber mounts with your choice of upgraded parts.
