The 88 runs so much cooler than the larger twin cams, it lasts a very long time. With regular maintenance they will outlast most riders.

I believe this to be true...I intend to convert to gear drive or hydraulic followers along with mild cams, lifters & adjustable pushrods & I am not concerned about what many would consider to be a high mileage engine. When the bike tells me that it's time for a top end job, I will simply install fresh jugs & pistons at stock displacement & have the stock heads rebuilt by Dave Mackie & be done with it. I expect that the bottom end will outlast the too end.

But then, I am not one of those clowns who go around trying to do wheelies on my touring bike...

I had to rebuilt my 05 at 42,***. A cam bearing roller bearing let go and took out the motor. It cost $3500 to rebuild the motor. I was meaning to change them out before they failed I just put it off to long. I plan to keep this bike for a long time then probably let my kid have it. Am shooting for 100K before I let him have it.

I have 32k on mine, just want to do gear drive cams. That's it.

Mileage is almost irrelevant in the case of a late model Harley. But condition counts for everything. That includes upgrades for reliability and being properly tuned.

I sold my last Ultra Classic with 127,688 on the speedo. Did a 95 kit at around 65k and chain tensioners at the same time. I religiously changed the oil at 2500 and never had a break down. My buddy has nearly 150k on it now and its still running strong.
