Default RE: Electra Standard or Street Glide

Last spring I faced the same dilema, really wanted the FLHX, but was short on money, so I ended up getting
an 05 FLHT standard, it was all I could swing at the time, ever since, I've been adding up the cost of the upgrades needed
to bring the bike to the same level, and I would have been MUCH better off saving for another couple of months and getting
the FLHX! Now, I want a chrome engine package, and some tunes, so that would have brought it up to the same price.
The best thing about going the way I did, is that I can pick and choose each piece as I add stuff, and make it the way I want. I probably wouldn't have been satisfied with the HD stereo anyway, picking my own tunes is a real plus.
If I could do it again, I would have bought the Streetglide, but I'm also happy with my bike, its a carbed bike, and when I get done, it will be nice than a FLHX[8D] I have plans ,and most of the parts to change out the bags to extended bags, with a custom rear fender, air ride, etc, along with a custom pain job, hopefully this fall, crap, I already put the bike into the $25K range, it all depends on if you want to keep it a stock bike, then I would say go with the FLHX, if you plan on doing lots of mods yourself, then buy the blank canvas.
peace

if your into making adds the way YOU Want it get the EGS

if you want something sharp out of the box and not have to do much to it to add - just start riding it - get the SG.
That is what I did...Made it my own.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say get the Classic and puta detachable kit on the Tourpak! Then you get the best of both worlds betwen the SG and EG Std, for about the same price as the SG (a little lessbased on MSRP rates). If you plan on doing any long distance riding that's the way to go!
Kinda the direction I wished I had gone (they didn't have a SG when I bought my Standard). But, I love my bike regardless!
What he said. I bought the classic. If you want it to look like a street glide you can deatch the tourpack & put a lower windsheild on it. The Classic has always been the best buy for the money in my book...

get an ultra and take off what you dont need. better value for the future. the plain electra std has a lot of chrome missing and the difference between street glide and ultra isonly about 2k.

If between the two was as much as I wanted to pay then I would think about a used/leftover flhtc or tcu. imo. cant really go wrong with either bike thow. good luck!

I agree that the UC is a great deal however I really like the natural vs the black. I switched to chrome on all the polished parts and it came out exactlly as I wanted.

Might be able to find a dealer willing to deal on the EGS as well. Bought my '06 in July 2006 right after the '07s were released. Saved almost $3000 vs. an EGS at MSRP and almost $5000 vs. the SG at MSRP.
