Damn my luck.... Thursday night making a routine 50mph banked turned off expressway and hit something slick. I drive this same road everyday..... anyway back tire came out off we went.
I blacked out when my head hit ground. When I woke up the cops were there already as well as some concerned cagers.
2013 flhx
Visually damaged:
Fender
Rim
Tire
Engine guard bent into gas tank
Gas tank
Floor boards
Both bags
Inner+outer fairing cracked
exhaust mufflers
Tons of little parts too....
I'm sure there is more....
I went by dealer Saturday and he said they will get me an estimate early this week, but visually he sees about 6k in damage (parts alone)- they will have to see if frame is tweaked at all... and repair cost could rise quickly.
By grace of god, I suffered a severe concussion, bruised ribs and pelvis, and a slew of road rash... no broken bones. Thank god for MO helmet laws as it appears my helmet skid across the ground for quite some way, and the Dr told me I would be missing half my head or possibly dead without it. Pain is horrendous, and PCS is real!
I have state farm insurance and filed a claim when I got out of hospital saturday, bike was dropped off at dealer Friday morning.
Should I be worried about the bike possibly being totaled? Anyone familiar with state farm and threshold of value vs damage ?
I am posting from mobile phone and can not upload pics, but will try from office on monday.
Tell me you do not have a loan on your bike. If you do tell me your not upside down in your loan. If you answered no on a loan or upside down, your fine minus your deductible. Let them total it. That's what I would rather have.
Wow so glad you're not too badly hurt - could be much worse. Road rash is terrible and heals slowly. I've been down twice and both times my helmet saved me. One got me the LifeFlight ride.
Take care of yourself and REST. The insurance company will take care of things. Both times I had no problems and was treated fairly.
Keep us posted on things and thanks for the grim reminder...
I do have a loan, and don't think I'm upside down, but even if I am I always buy gap. I would prefer it be totaled as well.
If the crash bar Bent back and touched the fuel tank, your frame will need to be replaced. A guy I know side swiped the rider in front of him and both engine guards bent breaking the mounting tab, insurance companies will replace frame due to this POS tab. One of the bikes didn't even go down, rider stayed on at the stop.
My bike is an 09 and insurance valued it at 19k a year and a half ago, but accessories bumped it up well over that and my bike was repaired. I believe they repair up to 70% of value. Yours will be more because it's newer.
Edit, your list of damage is very similar to mine except I had a tour pack and painted lowers. The insurance is going to replace parts at the cost of stock cost unless you have additional accessory coverage.
If they are going to repair it and do a frame swap, now would be a good time to do a chrome inner primary as it won't cost any labor if you are in to chrome. I did mine and it looked pretty sharp. Also may consider a painted inner fairing as you won't pay labor and only the difference in cost from the stock one and the painted one. I think the stock non painted inner fairing is only valued at approx 134.00
