I purchase some 16" apes and all extended wires ect that I'll need. Just wondering what else I might need besides brake fluid? Any gaskets for when I change the clutch cable? I want to make sure I have everything ahead of time to make the install go smooth.
Would it be benifitial to go in a certain order of taking things apart and installing the new parts?
Yes, you will need a new gasket for the transmission cover. Might as well replace the riser bushings while you have the bars off. Other than wires, clutch cable, brake lines and riser bushings I think that's it.
Kool I already have a new set of poly bushings. I'll pick up a gasket and some wire lube down at Lowes. Already have brake fluid, tranny fluid if needed, the manual and some Yuengling.... Hopefully it all goes smooth
no need for any special kind of lube.. wd40 worked for me.. u may want to take a Drexel to the bars to file down the edges so u don't cut up any of the wires u worked hard to pull through.. weedeater string and electrical tape helps as well
Ignition switch tool. Buy one or make one but have one handy. Don't do like I did and use a screwdriver and misalign the tumblers after my handlebars locked while changing bushings. Good luck with the project
I was able to reuse my transmission gasket, it was fine when I popped off the cover and no leaks when I put it back on. I did buy one just in case, it was cheap, but I didn't use it.
You might want to get new brake line washers.
I also came up with a pretty good trick to eliminate spilling gas everywhere when you take the crossover line off using two needle nose pliers, some extra fuel line, and a vacuum connector.
You can see pics and more description in my thread here.
I also used a screwdriver and only had to play with it for a few mins to align everything back up lol...I agree with the brake lines washers.. cant reuse those ****..im still tryin to get mine to stop leaking..its a verrrrrry slow one but a leak nonetheless..what brake line kit did u get. if u went the route I did with la choppers through eastern pc the shielded part of the cable is fine the chrome fittings under the neck were rusty within the first week and now are almost completely rusted
