And 95% of those who do all of a sudden have a "problem" with oil temp....

This.

HEHE... a little off is right! Autometer sells an oil temp gauge for about 60 bucks to replace it.

The real question is: why does HD continue to put known inaccurate gauges on the bike? Hoping that you'll buy a $150 oil temp gauge to replace it? Because they can? Because "they all do that"? Ignore it and they'll buy it anyway? If you bought a new truck and 25% of the gauges other than the speedo and tach were inaccurate would that be ok? Of course not.

Welcome to the world of Harley Davidson. On a more positive note, that's nothing compared to the myriad other known deficiencies that HD won't acknowledge. They DO address some things in a timely manner. If you consider 6-10 years timely.....

Perhaps a cylinder head temp. gauge - or an egt read out - had those on aircraft when I used to be a pilot. Keeps up a healthy level of paranoia but you could control the mixtures thus the temperatures of the engines. Can't do that on the bike though.

Out of the 6 Harleys I've owned, 3 have been touring, and all 3 had accurate temp gauges.

I bought the Harley aftermarket one that screws on the brake perch for my Heritage, and it was accurate.

When I say accurate, I mean within a couple of degrees...

Maybe I'm just lucky.

The AT sensor is next to the steering head on the '14s, outside the fairing.
