let off the gas and coast by quietly works for me. when you spook them with the throttle blip, they are just as likely to run towards you as they are away.
I can tell you from experience, cracking the throttle won't work on a moose.....she charged me instead. Barely made it by her. Thank God I had some clean shorts in my bag.
yeah that'll wake your butt up real quick..
a pack of us in Sturgis during the 2012 rally were going through Custer State Park.. on the back side on the way out, we all come barreling around a curve only to find 3 buffalo taking their time crossing the road. When they saw us, we had already braked to a complete stop but they stopped too and it then became a staring contest between their eyes and our headlights. We weren't but about 50 or so feet from them. I was sitting side by side with the guy leading the pack and I assure you it didn't take me 10 secs to throw down the kick stand, turn off the ignition, and hit the pavement in preparation to run my *** off! They just stood there for what seemed like 10 minutes but was only a minute maybe until they decided the water on the other side of the road looked more appetizing than we did and they slowly moved off. I'm sure they were completely docile but this Cajun wasn't sticking around to find out the hard way the answer to that question. I'm sure a blip of the throttle by anyone would have caused a different outcome.
