We call those "brake light checkers" around here. There was a guy at a local hamfest (amateur radio flea market) selling transmitters from automatic door openers that work on the same X-band frequency of police radar. He put them in a little plastic box with a push button switch and a 9V battery, lots of fun.

Laser detectors are nothing but a device that tells you that you're about to get a ticket.

PPL still use radar detectors that don't detect lasers? WOW…like driving cars without power steering. While, I don't use one on my bike at all----I have one in ever car and will admit that I tend to push all 400 horses in my car every now and then. I'll also admit that if the speed limit is 70---I'm typically going 80-85. No, I don't fully rely on it because I know that the cop sitting between the trees is flicking his on and off-----but like someone else said…mine has saved my butt too many times to count. If I'm out on the road alone…I'm not going 15 over the speed limit….but here is the thing. The newer technology….if the police office "shoots" a car one mile away from me…my detector picks that up. If a police officer is behind me "flipping on/off" as he drives…my detector picks that up. Mine even has a rear antenna.

If he's in the tree line shooting people as they ride by…my detector picks that up. Again..I agree, they aren't full proof and one should use common sense…..but maybe I have the holy grail of detectors or something because mine works in all the states the military sent me to….minus the states where they are illegal.

I use a Escort Passport….Valentine One is the best, with the Escort being the best of the "more reasonably" priced…..come over to the BMW car forum and tell ppl they don't work

And no, I shouldn't be speeding and should be more cautious and use common sense! I'll make sure to preach this to all the guys on their bikes at Hooters and other local pubs…and on poker runs, and at Daytona when they drink what…water?

Not sure about where you're at but have a quite a few buddies who are police officers in varying entities. The state troopers using laser here will pull the trigger, wait a few seconds and hit you again. If your speed changes they are pretty much assured you have a radar detector and pull you over to write a ticket that would otherwise normally be a warning.

Riding around TX roads throughout the years, you learn where you can speed and where you shouldn't speed.

Which box do they mark? 1. Speeding 2. Speeding but decreased speed and I was pissed that he had a legal radar detector

Just having fun man--that's all
I've been to Texas a lot and they remind me of SC..the troopers are out heavy

Seems a lot depends on where you live and what police use. Here in SoCal most police use Ka-Band radar vs Laser so it's easier to detect. Escort/Bell (same company now) and Valentine One make great detectors. You get what you pay for in radar detectors with higher dollar ones being significantly better than low dollar units.

I use the cobra iradar 900. It connects wireless with my android. This has worked great on the bike because I can mount it out of site and when an alert comes up its through an app on my phone. It also works seamless in giving voice alerts from my phone to my sena bluetooth headset in my helmet.

So far it's been fantastic!

It's not the cops around here, they are so understaffed that you have to really be doing something stupid to get stopped... It's the cameras popping up everywhere! The red light cameras weren't enough, we now have speed cameras... They put them up in school zones in the name of safety, until everyone found out half the school zones are so poorly posted you never know until it comes in the mail...

I got one, never passed the sign, I turned from a road that was after the only sign... I have the ear of my County Exec at the moment trying to get them all voided... Due to my prior profession I get taken seriously...

I have a Valentine 1 in the 911. I am happy with it; it has saved me a few times.
