One thing I noticed on mine for hot engine starts, I turn on the ignition and then flip the run switch on I imediatly hit the start button.
This eliminates the start kickback I was having.
A thought for when you get yours fixed.
Jamie from Fuel Moto where I got my big bore done actually suggested that. I had tried it but it didn't seem to make a difference for me.
The factory 103s have automatic compression releases. Anyone doing a build to 103 or bigger should take note of what the factory thought was required. We know they don't put on anything that isn't proven to be needed by many people that have had to pay for the feature themselves before the MOCO made it standard.
I have never heard of a starter clutch failing completely. They usually make a terrible grinding sound as the clutch starts to fail. Did yours do that and you ignored it until it wouldn't crank the engine anymore, or did this begin with no warning? Usually a spinning starter is caused by the starter drive failing to sling out to engage the ring gear on the clutch basket. If your starter drive won't move out to the ring gear the starter must be removed to find the problem.
I've read quite a few posts on here about Compensator issues and replacing them with the SE compensator. I think I should probably just do that to be on the safe side.

With 107' motor if your starter is stock from 09 the larger motor with more comp (maybe no comp release) likely pushed it over the edge & is why its been acting like it has even with the new battery.
And while talking battery here since you have a hi perf motor with more compression did you get a more powerfull battery then stock like the 500CCA yuasa or 600CCA Lightening start factory activated maint free AGM batteries to help start your larger motor with higher conmpression ?
If i had your larger motor in my bike likely having more compression and didnt have compression release to help starting i'd get a hi perf hi trq starter online cheaper then dealer ,larger high capacity battery & starter cables along with a higher output battery then stock with either 500cca or 600cca too both avail online for less money then stock HD battery that has considerably less cranking power / less CCA.
If i am not mistaken stock HD maint free fa c act AGM battery is approx 385cca vs the more powerfull 500cca & 600cca factory act maint free AGM batteries for less money.
I was going to start a new thread, but this seems in line with my issue... I have a 2003 FLSTC, 107" over-square with ridiculously high compression. I have an Ultima 1.4kw starter in it, and the starter drive is stripped. I have had starting issues since the build, the ring gear and drive gear have been replaced a few times. I have easy start cams in it now, but the starter took a beating before that got done.
Anyway, I need to know if anyone has advice on where to get the new starter drive from, I have seen prices online for $40 to $157. If the $157 dollar one is really a better unit, I have no problem spending the money. I am assuming that this part of the starter is the same from an HD starter to an Ultima? I am thinking the Ultima just has stronger windings? The Ultima # is 70-222
................ with the primary off the pinion/ring gear are easy access. Be extremely cautious dk'n with the pinion. If you pull it forward by hand for any reason you could engage the starter.
Bikes like the stroker 96, 103, the Fuelmoto 107, and DIY builds should also have either ACR's or the manual compression releases installed. 2009 bikes do not have them. That means there will always be "starting" issues. Most often the starter gets the blame. Then the compensator gets blamed. Or the battery. Almost always that's not the problem. It's the high compression. The only permanent fix is to get the releases. HD start putting them on their 103's. They did it because they had too. The releases make all those problems go away.
