Bad news: Bike is dinged, and it happened cuz I was not paying attention...
Good News: Friend of a friend is giving up on riding and has a Motorcycle stand that he wants to sell... so I may pick it up.
Yes, I know it was dumb, but no one got hurt, and the bike is not damaged heavily. It will be a cheap wake-up call, and then, while I am taking the wheel off, perhaps I should do the floating rotors...
I know how you feel. I did that once in the dealers parking lot on a warm Saturday afternoon with about 15 other riders standing around. As I was getting off the bike I felt it going down, tried to hold it up but forget it! I wound up on the ground with the bike on my left leg. Thank god for crash bars!
I was lucky, I managed to let if lay down gently so there was no damage to my bike but let me tell you, my ego was really damaged bad that day! lol!
If you're having trouble trusting the sidestand, just look between the gear shifter and the primary cover where the top end of the kickstand is. You will notice a little tab, that goes into a slot once the stand has weight on it. The bike can move back and forth a bit, but, the stand WILL NOT let the bike fall.
Check it out, it's definately way less stressful once you understand how the device works, especially if you are used to metric kickstands.
