I pulled into my bud's parking garage, and yup, spring fevered, I decided to get off the bike without a kickstand. These HD's are real neutral, so.... Long story short, there is another ding in the fender. Not a huge one, but now two dings. Can this be repaired without taking the fender off the bike? I know I should post a pic, and I will, but I am wondering if there are any folks out there that have ever found themselves in this scenario...
depends on where the ding is located on the fender...but i would say to do it properly with good end results, you will need to take the fender off. From fender will take about 45 minutes to remove, rear fender about and hour. You will need a MC stand.
Bad news: Bike is dinged, and it happened cuz I was not paying attention...
Good News: Friend of a friend is giving up on riding and has a Motorcycle stand that he wants to sell... so I may pick it up.
Yes, I know it was dumb, but no one got hurt, and the bike is not damaged heavily. It will be a cheap wake-up call, and then, while I am taking the wheel off, perhaps I should do the floating rotors...
I did a similar thing back in 1972! I had just ridden my 350 Honda about 300 miles. When I puilled up in the driveway, friends and family watching, Islowed to smooth stop and . . .just . . . never put my footOR the kickstand down! Pretty funny to watch but not to do. I felt like that little guy on the tricycle on Laugh In!
I saw a guy buy a brand new 06 Fat Boy. The saleslady pushed it outside, went over the controls and said "Here you go." He road it around the dealership, came back, big smile plastered on his face, and get off and, yep, didn't put the kick stand down, After trying to grab it, off balance, he then discovered how heavy a Harley is, because it took him down, too. Man, he was embarrassed, disgusted, and pissed off, but a bunch of bikers helped him pick it up. I think it busted his brake lever and turn signal and his pride. Just goes to show that sometimes, your mind is just not in it. I wonder if he'll ever do it again?
