Cruise Control Cable Lash Initialization
For Harley Touring Models
1.) With the Ignition off, push the right cruise switch to RESUME and hold it there.
2.) Push the left cruise on/off button to ON.
3.) Turn on the ignition switch and crank the engine. The GREEN ENGAGED light will illuminate for three seconds and go out. When it goes out, release the RESUME switch.
4.) With the bike still running, push the right cruise switch to RESUME again and hold it while the unit pulls in the slack in the cable. When the engine revs up a bit and the green light goes out again, release the RESUME button and turn the ignition switch off.
Follow the throttle cable down, by the right side of the frame, in the steering neck area. You'll see a place on the throttle cable that has two wires connected. After you've tried the lash initialization listed above, if it doesn't work, disconnect those two wires. Then try the lash initialization again. If it works, the problem lies in that switch. That is the roll-off switch. When cruise is set, if you roll the throttle forward, it cancels cruise. When this switch fails, cruise won't work. I don't know of a fix for this switch, besides replacing the cable. I've had to disconnect this switch a long time ago. Roll-off no longer functions, but brake light shuts 'er down.

Ill try that, when i was riding today the cruise light (green) came on and would set then shut off after a couple of bumps in the road, could it be cable adjustment
If bumps are shutting it off it may be the front brake lever is not fully returning and bounces a little, causing the brake light switch to engage. To adjust the cables you need the service manual as it gives a procedure that involves using a multimeter and checking across 2 wires at the cruise module to properly adjust the cable so the roll off works to shut down the cruise. However I have found if you adjust the cables so you have full throttle opening and some slack in the cable with the throttle off then it usually is within spec for the cruise.
