Coil on the Plug - anyone seen this ?

Was looking for Iridium NGK IX DCPR7EIX spark plugs and saw the accel item
coil on the plug.

I had those on a softail. It got rid of the coil and plug wires, cleaning things up quite a bit. Coils are already out of sight, and plug wires don't look bad on my SG.
I don't see any advantage other than aesthetics.

coil on plug is really common in the automotive world.
our late model touring bikes have the coil under the seat, the earlier models have under the tank...relocating the coil(s) can help if swapping to a custom tank.
running the primary wires to the coils may expose them to potential failure- heat from the heads
another concern with late models is the ion sense-
