Changing the bars on my '04 EG yesterday and found one of the inner fairing mounting brackets was broke at the top. This seems to be a common issue with these stamped steel brackets.
I have read some about a new nylon or poly bracket made by Alloy Art called the Strongarm bracket as a better replacement for the Harley part. Before I drop any money on these brackets, I was wanting to see if anyone here had installed these and how they hold up??
Any other ideas to replace these would also be appreciated as well.
Thanks
I just found the same thing in my fairing. I looked around on here and after seeing some pictures, I went to the hardware store and bought some "L" brackets and a couple of bolts. Came home and clamped it in place, drilled a few holes in the support bracket and now it won't ever break in that spot again. Did all this for less than $5 and 10 minutes of time. Hope this helps.
The later brackets finally adopted by HD seemed to have stopped the breaking issues. But I might go with aftermarket or fabricate my own. Either way, you know then that it will be stronger than even the improved HD bracket.
I did the repair on the left vertical bracket over five years ago and it's still holding today, even after an accident about four years ago. I likewise bolstered the right side before it broke, but although the top section has held well it broke in the middle of the bracket about a year ago. I considered the Alloy Art bracket but being unable to find feedback or much info on it and hearing positive feedback on the updated HD part I decided to go that route. The left side is still the repaired original bracket. I would recommend applying the fix, as it should last for years.

All FOUR of mine were broken or about to break so when I had the fairing off for paint I had my Indy mech fix it. He bought some "L" brackets at the home store for under $5 and it's been solid for almost 2 years. I can't see paying big bucks for something you can't see if there's an alternative that works just as well.
