Thinking about taking the cam support plate out for a good look at the inner tensioner and wondering if I need to buy one of these or if there is another way to hold the sprockets while torquing them?
I would get the cam sprocket locking tool, and the tensioner unloader tool. You can fashion something from hardwood to lock the cam sprockets, but the tool isn't hugely expensive. Unloading the tensioners can be a pita, the unloader tool makes that job a snap.
Just put the bike in 5th gear and hold the rear brake when loosening or tightening the cam & crank bolts. Worked good for me and no need of any special tools other than a torque wrench.
I got a brand new one of those I would ship to you for 15 if you want it.
I accidentally ordered the wrong one when I did my 103 twin cam. I ended up doing the job without any locking tool because I found out in the middle of the job, so technically you could do without it. But it is the right tool for the job.

Save your money for something else. This method works just fine.
