I was thinking about this after spending $125 on the SE intake and keeping the football cover. If I were you like it was said, use a HF filter and enlarge the intake to the front to the maximum and drill a few holes in the backer avoid too much hot air off the jugs. My SE intake uses the stock football cover and basically no backer plate so its sucks a lot of hot air. If you know anything about motors they love cool dense air.
I think the 2014 stock set up looks way better than previous models and the one that has the tube running forward away from the engine is likely the best but I don't like the looks.
Everybody has an opinion, you how that goes. I was surprised at how open the front of the stock air cleaner is. I have not made an actual measurement, but by eyeball it looks to have twice the opening square inches as does the throttle body opening. After all of the other improvements are made, the throttle body opening limits the flow into the engine. My opinion is that more holes in the football will make more noise but not much more performance.

I'm using the football with the Fuel Moto high flow backing plate and what looks like a K&N filter. I just orders a Ness cover, basically a flat disc over the filter center to replace the football. Do you think it will make any difference, as in less pinging when ut gets real hot?
If anything it will make it ping more. You are adding more air (possibly) and using the same amount of fuel, effectively leaning out the a/f mixture.
I all ready have the high flow set up, just using the stock cover. I'm changing to the Ness disc hoping to allow cooler air in. Really think it will allow more air in? It is wide open all around now. Thanks
No, it's not going to make any difference. It might look cool though so try it! At least you'll have something custom instead of some $200 cover that 5M other people have.... If it doesn't work out, you can cut it down to the center ring...
