I noticed a little nipple showing on one side the other day. I took the screw out and added a washer. It is not real noticeable though. As far as fixing it goes I can’t think of anything short of sanding, filling and repainting. I thought of applying heat to it and then try to push it or tap it in with a small wood block or the like, but decided against it for fear of making it worse.

I don’t think it is a rookie mistake. I think the screws are a tad too long for the application or the length of the screw hole is too short.
