The 2012 Touring user manual says to check your oil with the engine cold and the bike on it's kickstand. But the dipstick only has marks for oil levels where the engine is hot, both on kickstand and off. What's up with that?

The manual for my '13 RK has 2 sections for oil level check, one for cold and just below that is for hot. Both sections recommend checking oil on the jiffy stand.
For checking with cold engine, the manual says oil level should not be above midway point, # 2 in pic.
For checking with warm/hot engine, level should be between the ADD QT and FULL HOT mark, # 1 and # 3 in pic.
Most dealers have the bike on a lift and is upright, so the service techs use the side of the dipstick with UPRIGHT on it.
