Riding from Eastern Minnesota to Glacier Natl Park. We are in the middle of North Dakota and my 2003 Road King Classic with 71,000 miles starts missing like crazy.
I can get on the throttle hard and she accelerates good. When I let off and just maintain speed, it's missing and lurching like mad. The bike idles perfectly like normal. The engine light comes on when the bike is missing.
We are 90 miles from the closest dealer and can't find any Indy shops in Devils Lake, ND.
Maybe a bad connection? Already changed out the plugs which looked pretty normal.
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I don't want to scrap this trip with my 74 year old dad.
Need to figure out if it is a fuel problem or an electrical problem. I would check the usual suspects first -- spark plug wires, then see if the battery connections are tight. I hope it's something simple and you get running soon.
Check for an intake leak.
Spray some WD-40 around the intake flanges where they meet the heads while the engine is running.

Thanks for the replies guys! I really appreciate it. I doubt it's a fuel problem, because when I get on the throttle, it goes like a raped ape. It's calling for max fuel.
I'll try the WD-40 trick tomorrow morning (raining like crazy now).
No power commander or fuel management system.
I don't know how to get the codes. Tried holding in trip button while powering up, but don't get PSSPt like newer bikes. I read somewhere that I could short out terminals 1 & 2 on the cable under the left cover, but mine has 4 connectors and I don't know which ones are 1 & 2. I tried all combinations but couldn't get engine light to flash.
