actully, most cables are teflon lined on the inside and don't require any lube, and in fact are not supposed to. be careful, some of the graphite based lubes will actually ruin the cable. at least thats what the tags say on them, when installing new ones

I agree! It's not good to use graphite lube. I've been using basic sewing machine oil in my custom braided cables and it worked great. No discoloring or defect of any kind.

Some lawyer ,somewhere, had a case. Hd covered thier butt by saying every 5000 miles lube cables.. Its your bike. You will know if they need lube . And I use whatever oil I am running in the primary.. I put a few drops down the cable 3 yrs ago... All is good....Maybe next primary oil change I will do it again..
How often or in how many males do you lube the clutch cable. (only applicable to pre 2014)
It took me awhile to figure this one out, but I think the question you are posing is at what point is it necessary to lube or oil the clutch cable.
Your 2012 touring bike does not need the clutch cable lubed because the cable itself is wrapped in a Teflon shield.
