Please correct me if I'm wrong, I only just started looking at Dyno charts, but according to this chart, the 254 cam is below both the 255 and the 204 until about 5000 rpms in both HP and Torque.

Can someone please explain why most folks here are saying the 254 is better? Just trying to learn something here.

Thanks!

According to that chart the SE255 wins below 3500 rpm and doesn't give up a whole lot after that. 4000 rpm and below is where I spend most of my time. I cruise, I don't race. LOL.

Just had Andrews 57H Cams installed 30 days ago. Very happy with the performance boost. If they are offering to do everything that cheap, go for it. Having a shop do that work would cost 4X what they are quoting.

On a stock head I would choose the SE204. They have a very low intake centerline of 96 degrees and will produce good low end torque. They also have enough duration to pull to high rpm. The lift on 204 is .508 and stock heads really only need .500 lift any more than that is not helping much. The 255 has .556 lift and 99.5 center line and the 254 has .535 lift and 111 center line. The 111 is way too retarded for a bolt in cam in my opinion. Go look at some dyno charts on the 3 of equal components mostly compression and heads and Cubic inches and you will see. The stock cam will actually beat all three every thing being equal up to 1800 rpms but most dyno charts only start at 2000. At 2000 the 255 would be ahead and the 204 would catch up by 2300. It would be all SE 204 on top from there on to 4500 and the 254 may catch up. I am not talking much difference depending on the rpm range from 7 to 10 torque difference and 5 to 8 hp. it was only a couple between the 204, 255 and stock at 2000. Can't remember where I saw this controlled compare, but everything was done to the same bike and same stage 1 components. Keep in mind the dyno charts are under wide open throttle and have very little to do with how they respond in cruise or off idle area. The biggest difference in the opinions is what the person has. My Ford is better than your Chevy senario. If you can find some 2014 HO cams they work real well also. I know of couple of sets put in pre 14's and they work real well. Other than being 4 degrees retarded and having only .495 lift they are with in 1 degree of a 255 if it was retarded 4 degrees.

Yes, I tried them, the SE204 is one of the best cams out there, if they had it in gear drive I would have used it, the closest thing to it is the Andrews 37G cam, thats what I am running and they are great.

I believe the 255's are used on the 14's. Good all around power cam but under 3k rpm little light in the torque. Above 3k rpm they work great, bike comes alive. For me anyway, but I am running stock A/C and exhaust.

Very close. But not the same cam. It's a different grind.

They are definitely different than the 255. They have within 1 degree of the 255 if you advanced the 14 by 4 degrees. They are 103.5 on the intake center line and the 255 is 99.5 and the 255 has .556 lift and the 14 has .495 lift. I am wanting to put a 4 degree retard on a 255 and see how it does. I do like the way my 14 runs. It runs way stronger than my 2010 Limited did. I have also rode a 14 CVO Limited and it maybe little stronger than my limited but it had 7 more cubes, true duals and was dyno tuned. I am pretty sure they still have the 255's. I looked at the dyno map and it was same as the earlier CVO's. He was having decel pop and slight pop at 3000 that need attention. He didn't care how fast it would go, he just wanted it to ride 2 up on. He has 2013 Boss Hoss with aluminum Corvette motor to go fast on if he wants to go fast and he will.

Love my 255's,. T/O from CVO, paid $100 for them. $400 to have them installed. This was on a 2009 FLHTP, 103, auto c/r, Stage 1.

Mileage is much the same, loads more power touring bike.

If you have c/r, manuel, or auto do it! You will love the difference.
